If you live in Milton or any of the surrounding areas, chances are pretty high that you enjoy warm weather. It almost feels like that is a requirement to live in Florida! However, there are days when even those of us that really enjoy the heat get a little overwhelmed and need somewhere cool to retreat to. This is why we are grateful for the ability to use air conditioning in Milton, FL.

It is a safe bet that you have been using your air conditioner all summer and, by now, your system may be showing some signs of wear and tear. While the best option to care for your system is to schedule professional AC repairs, there are some other things that you can do to help keep your system going too.

3 Ways to Help Your AC

You want to get the best performance from your air conditioner without incredibly high costs. There are several things that you can do around the home to help achieve this.

  1. Keep doors and windows closed on hot days. We understand the desire for a breath of fresh air but it is definitely not a good idea to crack a window open when the heat outside is intense and you’re trying to keep the home cool. This can put extra stress on your air conditioner and increase the potential development of a repair need. Keeping the home closed up means that the cool air your system produces is going to stay inside where it belongs.
  2. Make sure to check that air filter. Hopefully, you changed your air filter at the beginning of the summer. We have news–it’s time to do it again. We advise that everyone checks their air filter every one to three months to see if it needs to be changed out. A dirty air filter can cause a lot of problems for any air conditioning system. If your air filter is clogged up with dirt, make sure to replace it with a new clean one to ensure optimal efficiency and performance from your system.
  3. Adjust your thermostat setting. we all understand the urge to see how low you can go in regards to your thermostat setting on a hot day. Note we said we understand, this does not mean we encourage it. The best practice for your air conditioner is to keep your thermostat setting moderate in order to allow it to do a good job of keeping you comfortable without straining the system and costing you extra money. The Department of Energy advises is keeping your air conditioner set between 75 and 78° to achieve optimal efficiency and effectiveness.

Are you putting all of these practices into place and still noticing poor comfort and high energy bills? In situations like this, it is time to call in the pros. Your air conditioner may be battling with a repair need and the sooner you get this dressed the better off you will be.
