The 3 Main AC Options to Know About

animated-checklist

Choosing an air conditioner for your home is a big decision. That doesn’t mean it should stress you out though. While there are multiple AC installation options available to you, the availability of choice shouldn’t scare you. All it means is that you can see which one matches your needs best.

That can be easier said than done though, especially if this is your first time selecting an AC unit. We want to help you out. To make things a little easier in this decision process, we’ve provided some information below on the systems you can choose from and what makes them a good choice for different needs.

Your 3 Main Air Conditioner System Options

When it comes to selecting a new AC unit you are going to have three main choices at your disposal. Here are the details you will want to know to determine which one might meet your needs best.

  1. Central air conditioners: These are the standard AC system most people know about. These systems use a ductwork system to deliver cool air that is created through the combined efforts of an indoor evaporator unit and an outdoor condenser unit. Because these systems are usually physically larger they are best for people who have the space for the unit themselves, along with already having ductwork and wanting to keep the entire home at a regular temperature.
  2. Heat pump mini-splits: Heat pumps use an indoor and outdoor unit set-up that is similar to the central AC. The difference is that the indoor unit is replaced by an air handler. This allows heat pumps to take up less room while still providing regular temperatures throughout the home. Additionally, heat pumps can heat your home too which makes them great for anyone in need of both heating and cooling systems for their home.
  3. Ductless HVAC systems: Your other option is the ductless system, also known as the ductless mini-split. This is a type of heat pump which, you guessed it, doesn’t need ductwork to cool things off. Instead, this system attaches multiple air handlers to an outdoor unit. A ductless system is great for anyone who doesn’t want or can’t afford or accommodate ductwork in their home. The added bonus is that it offers the added benefits of providing heating and cooling along with the ability to cool one room or area at a time.
